Privacy

The short version. Reading the board needs no account and keeps nothing about you. If you turn on alerts, we keep only what it takes to send them: the alerts you ticked, your town, and either your browser’s notification address or your email address.
We never sell it, share it or use it for advertising. Unsubscribing deletes it.
Who we are
South Coast Conditions (coastconditions.com) is built and run by Rooted Coast Design in Bandon, Oregon. Questions, or a request to delete anything: hello@rootedcoastdesign.com.
Just reading the board
- No account, no ad trackers, no analytics cookies.
- Your town and your theme choice are saved in your own browser so the board opens where you left it. They stay on your device and are not sent to us.
- Our host keeps ordinary server logs. The site runs on Vercel, which, like any web host, records requests (including IP addresses) for a limited time for security and troubleshooting. We don’t use them to identify anyone.
- The typeface comes from Google Fonts, so your browser asks Google’s servers for it, and Google sees your IP address when it does. Google’s privacy policy covers that.
- Links out. Every reading links to the agency that published it, and the scanner feeds and sponsors link to their own sites. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies.
Notification alerts
If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a delivery address at its own push service (Google for Chrome, Apple for Safari, Mozilla for Firefox, Microsoft for Edge). We keep that address, the alerts you ticked and the town you picked, so an alert for your bar or your road reaches you and not somebody 100 miles away. No name, no email, nothing else.
Turning notifications off in your browser ends them. When a push service tells us an address is no longer valid, we delete it.
Email alerts
- What we keep: your email address, the alerts you ticked, the town you picked, and when you signed up and confirmed.
- Nothing is sent until you confirm. Signing up sends one email with a confirm link. If it is not used, the address is deleted after 7 days.
- Unsubscribing deletes your record. Every alert has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. It doesn’t just flag you as unsubscribed; it removes your address and choices.
- Emails are sent by Resend, an email delivery service, which receives your address and the text of each email in order to deliver it. Resend also keeps its own delivery records, and a list of addresses that bounced or complained so it doesn’t keep mailing them.
- Only alerts. No newsletters and no marketing. Sponsors never receive anything about readers.
Where it is kept and who can see it
Alert records are kept in private storage at Vercel that only the site’s own server can read. Addresses are never shown on any page. Rooted Coast Design can view the email list to run the service, using a link that is emailed to us and expires after 30 minutes.
The companies that handle this data for us are Vercel (hosting and storage), Resend (sending email), and the browser push services above. The domain’s addresses are managed at Cloudflare.
Your choices
- Stop notifications: turn them off in your browser’s site settings.
- Stop email: use the unsubscribe link in any alert, or the one on the page you see after confirming.
- Anything else (a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deleting it): email hello@rootedcoastdesign.com and we will do it.
These choices are the same for everyone, wherever you live. If you are in California, they include your rights to know what we hold and to have it deleted. We don’t sell or share personal information, and because we don’t track anyone across websites, a browser’s Do Not Track signal has nothing to switch off here.
Children
The board is for adults planning a day on the coast. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If what we keep changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top moves.
