Road closures on this coast
Checked September 30, 2026 against ALGO Traffic, the Alabama Department of Transportation’s traffic service.
The Highways tile repeats what the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) publishes on ALGO Traffic, the traffic service it runs with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, about the state highways these towns depend on: I-10 and the tunnels under the Mobile River, US 98 down the Eastern Shore, and the single roads to Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan and the beaches.
The roads the board watches
ALGO lists every event in the state at once. The board keeps only the ones on these roads, each cut to a box on the map so I-65 means the stretch out of Mobile and not Birmingham.
| Route | Runs |
|---|---|
| I-10 | Mobile through the Wallace Tunnel and over the Bayway to Daphne and the Florida line |
| I-65 | north out of Mobile |
| US 90 | through Mobile and across the Causeway |
| US 98 | Mobile across the bay through Daphne, Fairhope and Point Clear to Magnolia Springs and Foley |
| AL 193 | Tillmans Corner down to the Dauphin Island bridge |
| AL 188 | Grand Bay through Bayou La Batre to Coden |
| AL 163 | the Dauphin Island Parkway through south Mobile |
| AL 181 | Daphne down to Fairhope |
| AL 180 | Fort Morgan Road from Gulf Shores out to the fort |
| AL 59 | Gulf Shores north through Foley |
| AL 182 | the beach road from Gulf Shores to Orange Beach and Perdido Key |
| AL 161 | Orange Beach north to Foley |
Each town’s page shows its own roads first. ALGO carries interstates, US highways and state routes; a closure on a county road, such as Baldwin County’s roads around Bon Secour, is not on this tile.
What the tile reads from each event
Each ALGO event carries its type (roadwork, incident, crash), ALDOT’s severity (minor, moderate or major delay, or closed), where it starts and ends by milepost, ALDOT’s own description, and the state of every lane in each direction: open or closed, and whether it is a travel lane, a shoulder or a ramp.
What shuts the road, and what does not
The tile calls a road Closed when ALDOT does: severity Closed, or every travel lane in one direction closed. A road shut one way is shut, and the row says which way. Everything else is a delay, in ALDOT’s own grade.
A car on the shoulder is not a delay. ALGO lists every abandoned or disabled vehicle on I-10 and I-65, graded as a minor delay, with every travel lane open and only the shoulder marked closed. On September 30, 2026 nine of the twenty-one events ALGO listed in Mobile and Baldwin counties were those. The tile leaves them off. Anything else ALDOT lists is kept.
The highway cameras
The Highway cameras tile shows up to three of ALDOT’s cameras on your town’s own highways, nearest first, within 25 miles, with the rest behind a tap. Each row names the road and cross street, ALDOT’s milepost, and how far from town the camera is and which way. Most of ALDOT’s cameras on this coast are on I-10, I-65 and US 98; the beach roads have few.
The time under the picture is when ALDOT saved it. ALDOT prints no time on its pictures. Its snapshot carries the time its copy was saved, so the picture is at least that old, and the tile prints that time. A picture more than half an hour old says how old it is.
The picture comes through this site. ALGO Traffic lets no other site read its pictures, so this site fetches each one from ALDOT and passes it on with its time, keeping it for a minute so that many readers looking at one camera share one fetch. Nothing is stored. If ALDOT does not answer, the tile says ALDOT is not serving that camera’s picture.
No camera. Where ALDOT has no camera on your highway within 25 miles, the tile says so and names the nearest one on that road.
The list of cameras was read from ALGO Traffic on September 30, 2026.
What it cannot tell you
A crash reaches ALGO only when somebody has entered it, so the first minutes of a wreck in the Wallace Tunnel or on the Bayway are likely to reach you some other way first. The Mobile Bay Ferry between Dauphin Island and Fort Morgan is not on this tile; it has its own on the Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan and Gulf Shores pages. That tile prints the operator’s published schedule, not a live feed: the ferry posts each day’s running and any weather cancellation on its own Facebook page each morning, and answers at 251-861-3000.
