Road closures on this coast
Checked October 4, 2026 against the Florida Highway Patrol’s Live Traffic Crash and Road Condition Report and the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s copy of FL511’s camera list.
On Florida’s coast the Highways tile shows the crashes the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is working in the board’s counties, from the live report FHP publishes for the public. FHP says the report is updated every five minutes.
What the board reads
FHP’s report lists every incident its troopers are working across the state. The board keeps the ones in its own counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa on the Pensacola board; Walton and Bay on the Panama City board; Gulf, Franklin, Wakulla, Taylor and Dixie on the Forgotten Coast and Big Bend board; Levy, Citrus, Hernando and Pasco on the Nature Coast board; Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee on the Tampa Bay board; Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee on the Sarasota to Fort Myers board; Collier on the Naples board; and on the Atlantic, Nassau, Duval, St. Johns and Flagler on the First Coast board, Volusia and Brevard on the Space Coast board, Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin on the Treasure Coast board, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade on the Gold Coast board, and Monroe on the Keys board. For each one it shows:
- What it is, in FHP’s words: a vehicle crash, a crash with injuries, a hit and run, debris in the road, a vehicle fire.
- Where: the road, the cross street and the town, as FHP writes them. FHP names streets as well as highways, so a crash on Sorrento Road shows up as readily as one on I-10.
- When FHP got the call, and what FHP has noted about the road: blocked, one lane blocked, or clear.
The roads each town lives on
FHP's crashes are kept by county, on any road. These are the state roads the board names for its towns, so a town page can say when a crash is on your own road, and the all-clear can name them.

What “Blocked” means
When FHP notes a roadblock or a blocked lane, the row says Blocked. FHP uses that word for anything from one lane to the whole road, so the board reads the trooper’s note closely:
- The whole road. When the note says the whole road is shut (“roadway blocked”, “blocking roadway”, “road closed”, “all lanes blocked”), the board treats it the way other states treat a closure: it leads your town’s page when it is on your road and nearby, alerts go out, and the Facebook post says “US 98 blocked”, in FHP’s word, with a follow-up, “US 98 no longer blocked”, when FHP’s note says the road is clear or FHP takes the crash off its list. If FHP’s report cannot be read, or comes back empty, the board changes nothing and posts nothing. Posts and alerts are for the state roads in the table above; a crash blocking a side street is on the tile but is not posted.
- A lane, a shoulder, or a bare “roadblock”. The row says Blocked, in amber, and nothing is posted.
FHP’s notes are short and not always the same, so a full closure the trooper wrote down only as “roadblock” is not posted. The board would rather miss one than announce a closure that is not there. If FHP’s note says the road is clear or open, the row is not Blocked at all.
A disabled vehicle is shown only when FHP says it is blocking something. A car on the shoulder is not a road report. A crash still on FHP’s list more than twelve hours after the call is left off as stale, unless FHP still says it blocks the whole road: that stays until FHP takes it down, so the board never says a road is clear while FHP says it is not.
The highway cameras
The cameras tile shows FDOT’s own cameras on the roads each town lives on, nearest first, within 25 miles. The pictures load straight from FDOT’s image server, and each one has FDOT’s date and time printed on the frame: read the time there. A few of FDOT’s cameras print the day before the month, so October 3 can show as 03/10/26. The list of which cameras exist is the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s public copy of FL511’s camera list, read on October 4, 2026. Up to three of FDOT’s cameras are shown open, and more behind a tap. A camera out of service is counted but never given a slot. A town on a state road with no camera on it within 25 miles is told so, with the nearest one, up to 60 miles away; a town on no state road has no camera tile.
On the Panhandle FDOT’s cameras are on I-10, I-110 in Pensacola, the Pensacola Bay Bridge on US 98, and US 231 north of Panama City. Most of US 98 along the beaches has none, and the tile says so rather than showing a camera far away. Round the Big Bend the list has one, on US 19 at Perry, inland of Keaton Beach and Steinhatchee, and none on US 98 along the coast, SR 363 or SR 51. On the Nature Coast they are on US 19 and SR 44 in Citrus County, from Homosassa to Crystal River. Around Tampa Bay they are on I-275, the Selmon Expressway (SR 618), SR 60 across the Courtney Campbell Causeway and through Tampa, and a few in St. Petersburg; Gulf Boulevard on the beaches and the Manatee County roads have none. In Sarasota County they are on US 41, US 301, SR 780 and SR 776 at Englewood; Charlotte County has none on the list; in Lee and Collier counties they are on I-75 only, so US 41 through Fort Myers and Naples, SR 951 and SR 29 have none. On the Atlantic coast the list is mostly I-95, the whole way from Jacksonville to Miami, with Butler Boulevard (SR 202) and I-10 in Jacksonville, I-4 and US 1 in Volusia County, SR 528 and SR 50 in Brevard, the Turnpike through St. Lucie County and the Homestead Extension in Miami-Dade, US 1 through Broward and Miami-Dade, the Sawgrass Expressway, I-595, the Palmetto, the Dolphin Expressway and the causeways into Miami Beach. FDOT runs one camera on A1A on the whole coast, at Sheridan Street in Hollywood, so the beach towns on A1A are told there is none on their road. Nassau County’s cameras are all on I-95, which no town on the board lives on. In the Keys there are 39, all on US 1, the Overseas Highway, from Key Largo to Key West. The numbers in names such as “I10-MM 063.2WB” are FDOT’s: on I-10 that is the mile marker beside the road, printed on its own on the tile. On US 231 they are FDOT’s road inventory mileposts, which need not match any marker beside the road, so the tile leaves them in the name.
What it cannot tell you
Crashes inside city limits. In FHP’s own words, it is “not common practice for FHP to work incidents inside city limits.” A crash in Pensacola, Destin, Panama City, Apalachicola, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Sarasota, Fort Myers or Naples is usually the city police’s, and it will not be on this tile. “Nothing reported” means FHP is not working anything in those counties. It does not mean the roads are empty.
Planned roadwork and closures. FHP’s report is about crashes, not construction. The Florida Department of Transportation publishes its work zones separately, and the board does not show them yet.
The first minutes. A crash reaches the report once FHP has taken the call, so the first minutes of a wreck may reach you some other way first.
FL511, the Florida Department of Transportation’s traveler site, has its own map of crashes and roadwork. It does not allow other sites to read that map’s data, so the board does not use it. You can open it yourself any time.
